Goblin

Someone stole my desk chair today.
(Apparently, that is my 'talking to cats' face.  Interesting.)

Our placemats will ROCK

My company has a placemat policy. If an employee has been here at least three years and leaves (for more amiable reasons), they get a send-off collaged placemat of photos and funny sayings. This placemat will become part of the placemat shrine of former employees and maps of the Grand Canyon that are used to protect our awesome conference table at lunch time. Amy and I will have the BEST placemats because we take the best field photos. Mid-thistle monitoring (yes, we were counting thistles), we stopped the cart and took jumping pictures. Amy is a seasoned veteran of jumping pictures, but these were my first. It took a bit to get our timing down (Amy=hare, Leslie=turtle), but we ended up with these beauties.
Future sandwich eating employees are so lucky. They don't even know.

in the office, beware the reply-all

"Throwing out yogurt with a current date is not only ludicrous, but wasteful and a totally unacceptable procedure. Next time someone tosses a perfectly good food item away, stop and think of all the starving people around the world that would love to have just one bit of that food item, then if you’re conscientious is still good with the idea, then go ahead and toss it!

Since I wasn’t here and do not know who exactly did the tossing, I’m referring this back to you and you can forward it to any other guilty person or persons."

Update:

"Congratulations! You are the winner of the “next person who complains” gets fridge duty for the month. No good food is thrown out during this moldy, smelly, volunteer-based chore. You will find yogurts gathered in the cheese drawer.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate. There is an awful lot of precipitate in this building…."

Update Update:

"Lets just all stick to the rules, shall we? Label your food or take it home at the end of the week and it won’t get thrown out. Plain and simple."

The tide comes in, the tide goes out

Time for some synopsis: the company I work for has expanded upstairs. Through a series of rather confusing circumstances, somehow Amy and I ended up with the best office in the building.
Our new office. Kinda dark in the photo, but that is because there are more windows than walls, making it incredibly bright in person. I have never turned on the overhead lights. Come to think of it, I wonder if they work. The view from my desk chair. This time of year, there are tons of wee fish in the bay, so there have been a large amount of birds and seals out in the water. Coworkers from the wildlife department come up to "talk" to me, but really sit in a chair by the window and randomly blurt out bird names.
And here. These are going to be a contributing factor to my pending in-shape-ness. Up and down and up and down, all day long. The printer doesn't work upstairs, and food/coffee/the rest of the office is all on the first floor. I'm into it.

inappropriate angst

I just arrived in the office after an entire week of field work....days spent in the South Bay climbing hillsides with a GPS and, in the North Bay, navigating those vegetated areas in freeway onramp/offramp loopdeloops. And now, I'm here. The blinky red light that means messages is flashing on my phone. There is a pile of wetland delineation data sheets to be entered. Diann from accounting is hunting me with a spear to turn in my VISA statement and receipts (little does she know I left most of those receipts at home). And the emails.....sigh. The client emails. sigh.

I'd rather be doing anything else. I'd rather be buying sponges to clean that nasty pile of dishes in my apartment. Or reading blogs I know and blogs I don't, the ultimate voyeur. Or working on editing some of my writing for my writing group. Or reminiscing. Or foreshadowing. Or flying kites. Or sitting sunshine-like in the backyard area of Cafe Gratitude, sipping an almond latte with whoever could find the time or inclination.

And so I leave you with an image of our office mascot. His name is Chucky, and he has velcro on his feet for a reason; we use to hide him around the office, stuck to the ceiling, sticking out from the wall, until he freaked out the head architect so much that we had to limit wee Chucky's forays. He lay where he fell currently, and on a particularly angsty day, the other Leslie in the office (LeslieM, not my mirror has two faces) and I put an appropriate sign next to him.
